MICROBLADING AFTERCARE

The microblading process makes it possible for you to have the natural-looking, beautiful eyebrows you want but following the Microblading Aftercare Instructions is essential for optimal and lasting results.

***Failure to follow the aftercare instructions provided may result in scarring, infections or discolouration.

AFTER THE PROCEDURE

Aftercare advice

It is important to understand there are 4 phases to the healing process:

  • DARK phase
  • SHED phase
  • DISAPPEAR phase
  • RETURN phase

It takes on average 5-6 weeks to fully heal from the treatment.
Here is the step-by-step on what to expect and how to look after the treated brows.

Aftercare balm is only provided if the skin type is dry/normal skin – if the skin type is combination/oily aftercare is advised the same simply without the application of balm. This is because of the natural moisture in the skin with the natural oils. By dry healing the brows will have better-healed retention

Day of Treatment:

  • 1 hour after treatment finishes you must blot your brows with damp cotton pads to release any lymphatic fluid. Followed by a thin layer of balm to be applied with a cotton bud.
  • Repeat this on the hour for 5 more hours.

It is important to clean away this lymphatic fluid as the build-up can cause excessive scabbing.

  • Please do this also once before bed.

Day 2:

  • The Brows will appear darker as the scabbing process is starting (a scab will always go dark before it falls off due to the blood particles, dead skin and pigment particles surfacing to form small scabs).
  • Blot them with damp cotton pads followed by a thin application of aftercare balm with a cotton bud morning and night.

You will repeat this for 2-3 weeks until any dryness/shedding has finished.
DO EXPECT your brows to feel at their darkest during the first dew days.
DO EXPECT them to feel tight and dry.
DO EXPECT them to shed and to then look patch in colour.
DO FOLLOW the avoidance list for the next 2-3 weeks UNTIL all your shedding is complete, and the skin feels smooth.

After Day 14:
Resume your normal activities except, continue to avoid laser or chemical peels and forms of exfoliation, and any creams containing retinal or glycolic acid until after the healing process.

CRITICAL TO AVOID FOR 14 DAYS AFTER THE MICROBLADING PROCEDURE

  • Avoid getting the brows directly wet
  • Avoid using any facial washes/cleansers/moisturisers in the direct area
  • Avoid makeup in the direct area
  • Avoid sweat coming into contact with the area (this breaks down pigment)
  • Avoid swimming pools/saunas/steam rooms, long hot baths, etc
  • Avoid sun exposure/UV beds
  • Avoid picking, itching, rubbing, or pulling at the dryness.
  • ONLY clean and moisturise with damp pads and balm provided (if skin type is suitable)

AFTER DAY 14:
Resume your normal activities except, continue to avoid laser or chemical peels and forms of exfoliation, and any creams containing retinal or glycolic acid until after the healing process.

THE MICROBLADING HEALING PROCESS

Healed microblading results are the most beautiful and natural looking way to enhance eyebrows, but the path leading to those anticipated healed results can be a little bit surprising. In addition to following the microblading aftercare instructions, understanding the microblading healing process is essential to avoid undue worry and stress while going through the different stages of healing.

After all shedding is complete (After weeks 2-3)

  • The avoidance list no longer applies however if the client does choose to expose the brows to the sun or UV beds they MUST apply SPF 50 directly onto the brows.
  • The brows will feel tremendously lighter almost to the point of “disappearing” this is very normal.
  • The reason for this is because of the new skin cells that form, a very small % is actually scar tissue. When scar tissue is first present in a new skin cell the cell is opaque meaning we cannot see through the cell to the pigment retention
  • It takes 2-3 weeks on average for the healed results from the treatment to show through and the results will be 30/40% lighter and also 10% slimmer
  • This is a timeline of 5-6 weeks; this is the average rate for the skin cell to recover from the treatment and show the true healed results. Some clients may take longer depending on health and age.

There are stages of the healing process that can cause many, especially those who aren’t prepared with what to expect, to wonder if eyebrow microblading was a mistake. To help reduce the drama, the microblading healing process is described below:

Day 1
  • Eyebrows look amazing immediately after microblading appointment
  • Pigment gradually gets darker through out the day
Week 1
  • Pigment reaches darkest level on day two
  • Light scabbing develops where microblading strokes occurred
Week 2
  • Scabbing from microblading strokes begin to peel and flake off, sometimes revealing no definite, visible color in skin

Weeks 3-4
  • Pigment in the skin continues to oxidize and microbladed strokes begin to reappear in colour intended from the beginning, but some strokes come back looking patchy
Week 6
  • Eyebrows fully healed and ready to undergo the finishing effects of touch-up appointment
  • Beautiful eyebrow enhancement/transformation is complete after final touch-up

*** Please keep in mind that everyone heals differently so these times are only a general guideline. Trust the process!

Not only do microblading results look amazingly natural, but they also require no daily upkeep, so kiss the daily eyebrow routine goodbye. A touch-up 6-18 months later to keep the colour looking vibrant, and the microblade strokes looking crisp is recommended.
